I stopped off in New York, en route from Ireland to Seattle, and visited
friends like artist Julie Allen, dancer and publishing maven Abby Lindenberg, yogini Sadie Nardini, NYU professor Christopher Otter, music columnist Tricia Romano, art educator and sculptor Susanna Rubin, writer Susan Tifft and my ethereal singer-actress cousin Jenny Youngs.

Occasionally, she gigs at CBGB, immortalized in a Talking Heads song, and I write for the Daily Mail, lampooned in a Beatles lyric. Together we keep our 86-year-old grandmother, Emma Baptist, fairly amused. She also likes the New York Times crossword and making Italian fried dough, which is unbelievably tasty,
